Pieces of the Business Puzzle

I reconnect with Jordan Bradford to see if he was still available to shoot the video for us. He’s still on board which is great. We have a lot of pieces to a very big puzzle. It’s like trying to put the jigsaw puzzle together without seeing the picture on the box. They are all floating out there and it’s so rewarding when you are able to put a few of the pieces together and start to get an idea of what it will look like. The amount of pieces of this business puzzle that are all built around one idea is sometimes overwhelming! When you find one part that clicks, it’s a...

A Much Needed Break

We are waiting to find out an approximate date that we will be receiving our product and are trying to set the date for the photo shoot , we set a tentative date for somewhere in the first two weeks of March. As it happens, more serendipity and networking pays off in the form of Ashlynn our model, who has connections with a great 4,000 square foot studio, Studio 2255 on S. Michigan Avenue. After talking with Bethany and seeing what her needs are, we tentatively book the studio. Check! One more thing on the list. The rest of the month is spent going through label details, figuring out the photo shoot and getting everything ready for the size check run. We have chosen to go with YS Apparel in Chicago for our manufacturing as they are the most experienced with knits. They started on the size check run, so now we just have to see how it goes and what issues may possibly...

Patience is a Virtue

We get invoices for our fabric – good grief this is an expensive business!! Fabric, labels, patterns, prototypes, shipping, consulting, website, graphics, models, photography just to name a few! We can’t stop now!! We now are consulting with a new production manager at V.Mora, Abigail Ellis. She proves to be a great help, has the ability to always be positive and helps to calm me when I’m about to go over the edge! Definitely a great asset to us and V.Mora! We set up a meeting with Bethany so that we can start working on ideas for the shoot. Karen and Bethany have not met yet, so it will be good for them to get to know each other. Bethany is a great networker and put us in touch with talented makeup artist/stylist Carley Martin with Factor Artists, who we decided to use for the shoot. Things are starting to fall into place, little by little. There is a lot to organize for the photo shoot and after working in the studio/ music business for many years, I appreciate the importance of pre-production, which helps with time, money and organization. Ashlynn, Connie and Carley were all available; we just had to wait for an ETA on delivery of our product before we could confirm a date for the photo shoot. Patience is a virtue that I do not possess. This process is teaching me a lot about myself! My strengths and weaknesses are put to the test in buckets! Written by: Karen was learning about Helen’s strengths right along with her! A friend of Helen’s once told me, “If...
