Things For New Mom To Keep Handy

So you’ve just had a baby and you have been cooped up in the house for weeks. Now’s the time to get out and enjoy the summer, but you realize you don’t want to leave the house without the absolute necessities for your newborn. Spend a little time strategizing what to bring and how you will carry everything. Figuring out what is necessary can take practice. Here are some tips for making the process a whole lot easier for new moms:

Diapers and wipes

If you are a first time mom, you may underestimate the number of times a newborn will need to be changed. Newborns on average need diaper changes 10 times per day. Packing diapers and wipes are a necessity when leaving the house for any amount of time. Also, consider that wipes can be used for multiple reasons. You can use them to wipe dirty hands and feet, a baby’s face, or icky surfaces. If you will be out for an extended period of time, consider investing in a diaper bag or book bag that will hold several disposable (or cloth) diapers at once. You might be surprised at how much space they take up in a simple bag.

Bottles and formula (if applicable)

Whether you are a breastfeeding mom (with expressed milk) or a formula feeding mother, you will need baby bottles while on the go. You don’t want to have to run around the grocery store buying additional bottles and formula. You can even prepare several bottles with dry formula that stay in your diaper bag(s) so you will never forget to pack them.

Hand sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is an important one. For moms on the go who enjoy spending time outdoors, you will most likely come in contact with strangers or touch dirty surfaces. Pulling out the hand sanitizer before re-touching baby can help keep baby safe from unwanted germs. You can also purchase hand sanitizer holders that can attach to bags, jeans, purses and anything else with a loop.

Change of clothes

Always be ready for accidents! Newborns have a habit of making a mess both inside and outside of their adorable new onesies. Keeping a change of fresh clothes will keep your already delightful newborn clean and comfy. Consider a thin blanket for the little one, just in case it gets a little chilly from place to place.

Mommy stuff

Of course, when packing to leave the house you do not want to forget to prepare for yourself. You will need your driver’s license or identification, your debit/credit cards and your cell phone. Make sure these items are easily accessible so you can reach them in a hurry. A neat way to hold your small items while on the go is the Poppet cardigan. While you are taking a walk at the park or are simply ready for an outfit change, you can actually transform your packed Poppet into a comfortable cardigan in seconds. Now wearing the Poppet, stash your small essentials in the concealed pocket .If you are a nursing mom the front drape on the Classic or Lotus Style Poppet works well as a chic nursing cover-up!

While taking care of a new baby can be exhausting, it can also be exceedingly rewarding. Remembering the basic necessities is important to maintaining a happy baby and a happy new mom. Always remember to take care of yourself; it will definitely make you a more content mom.
