The Martha Stewart American Made 2015 Awards draw attention to designers and entrepreneurs who are making a difference because of their unique vision and passion for quality American-made products. Martha Stewart Living magazine has been showcasing American business owners, entrepreneurs and artisans for many years and we are honored to have the Poppet cardigans as a nominee. In addition to the Editors’ picks there is an Audience Choice Winner in each of 4 categories: Crafts, Design, Food and Style. The Poppet Company is nominated in the Style/Fashion category of the competition. How did H&K The Poppet Company begin? We formed H&K The Poppet Co in 2012, after a discussion recognizing the absence of garments for women that were packable and compact, as well as stylish and flattering. We launched nine months later , in June 2013. Our line now includes four styles of cardigans that fold into their own attached water-repellent pocket, with a packable wrap dress and Turnaround Tank to debut in the fall of 2016. When the wearer gets chilly or wants to change/enhance an outfit, these garments ‘pop’ out of their pocket ready to wear. We pride ourselves in offering impeccable customer service and in manufacturing every Poppet in the US. As women entrepreneurs we are passionate about what...
Pocket Poppet Invention – Helen’s Story

Pocket Poppet Invention – Helen’s Story

Pocket Poppet Invention After a long career in the music industry, hobnobbing with talented big-name artists, Helen’s entrepreneurial spirit and creative passion took over; born of necessity, she created the cardigan in a pocket; the pocket poppet invention is a packable cardigan for women on the go. Tell us a little about your background… I grew up in Quorndon ,a small village two hours north of London, England and am the middle child of five children. We lived in a mid-sized house on a cul-de-sac where everyone knew everyone. It was a great place to grow up and always felt safe and friendly. It was in an era of playing outside and being creative, making up games and stories, raising tents, and digging in the garden. I come from a long line of entrepreneurs; my family has owned a retail store since 1922, Tyler’s of Loughborough (the town in England where it is located). I spent every weekday after school at the shop, waiting for my Dad to finish work so I didn’t have to take the bus. I dug around in the warehouse upstairs and was fascinated by my finds. I loved to take home items that were slightly damaged or unsellable to my Mum—much to her dismay. It felt like I was shopping for free! I liked putting things together, fixing things, and creating things. I would take home packets of seeds so I could grow them in the garden. The store has changed and expanded over the years and is now more of a Crate & Barrel meets Pottery Barn, with some Williams Sonoma and Pandora...

PRODUCT REVIEW: POSH POPPET CARDIGAN – VERY PACKABLE; IDEAL FOR TRAVEL I was introduced to the Posh Poppet cardigan jacket when I attended the Chicago Travel and Adventure Show in February 2015. It was there that I saw and fell in love with the Posh Poppet, a wrinkle free black jacket that has a dressy look and the feel of a feminine tuxedo. It features a longer back, shorter soft lapel front and ruching on the long sleeves. (The photo of me in my Posh jacket was taken in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.) What makes this jacket really great for travel is its ability to be packed into its “pocket” or pouch (which is also water repellent). As the company literature says, “When you no longer need to wear your Poppet, it easily folds away and ‘pops’ back into its pocket, seals with Velcro and features a wristlet for easy carrying, making it the perfect addition to your travel outfit.” Even after it has been in its pocket for long periods of time, it has only slight wrinkles that fall out quickly.

When the Posh Poppet cardigan jacket is worn, the pocket is concealed in the back of the jacket and is undetectable when worn. Small essentials (lipstick, credit card, cell phone, business cards, etc.) can be stashed in the pocket, so you may not need to carry a purse. I wore my black Posh jacket on a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, both on the plane and during the trip on two evenings. I loved its look and feel and received several compliments on it. It is now...

GMA Shark Tank Your Life

GMA Shark Tank Your Life

What a whirlwind of a week! Good Morning America contacted us last Monday to schedule an appearance on Friday morning on the Shark Tank Your Life segment with ‘shark’ Daymond John!  We flew to New York on Thursday and had a 5:30 A.M. call time Friday morning! We hung out in the green room drinking tea until it was time to be whisked off for hair and make-up! I was so fortunate to have the lovely and gracious, three time Emmy award winning make up artist Elena George  fix me up for the appearance (wow!) then back to the green room.  Next, it was time for the first of two rehearsals, which were quite frankly, nerve racking! It’s unbelievable how many people it takes to make the show work and everyone there is so great! I did the first rehearsal and instantly got a ‘wow’ and some ‘oohs’ from the crew as the Poppet popped out of its’ pocket! Karen was there in the wings the whole time, snapping away getting some great photos and being a great business partner and cheerleader to my nerves! Back to the green room again for another short wait, and then off outside to ‘dance’ in the Shark Tank with Morgan from Handbag Raincoats. We were both so nervous and shivering in the chilly New York air, but did what we had to do, when given the cue, with Daymond baiting outside the tank! These were the ‘ teasers’ that they film before the actual segment airs and we went back upstairs and back down again, along with Daymond, to a huge crowd of...
